As a project manager there are many times that you have to draw up a schedule from scratch. Sometimes you may be stuck as to how to go about the schedule or not but often you will be handed a a schedule and told to just use this as a template. (Note: I use template in his article for schedules from previous projects and also standard departmental issued templates.) This may seem like a great idea at first because a lot of the stuff is right there for you. All the tasks seem neatly laid out. You think to yourself: This is just what you needed. This will save a whole lot of time. But beware. Not everything is as easy as it seems. Here are just a few reasons as to why you should not automatically take that schedule and run with it tweaking here and there.
To avoid any errors while buying a work schedule template below is a list of attributes that will serve as guidelines. This is not a checklist and by no means exhaustive but this will provide you a framework for making the correct choice. Project Based: You are buying the shift schedule template for your business and therefore the primary concerns of a business should be the primary concerns of the template. Look at the projects section as to how the staff scheduling software enables you to rank clients and their projects on the basis of their priority and importance to the firm. It is said that 20 percent of the clients will account for 80 percent of your business and you do not want to upset those 20 percent%. Employee Based: The next resource that you should be concerned about is your employees.
In a few small corners of the business world weekly templates are prepared in a flexible manner. This creates a dynamic in regards to shift time and length and employees are more likely to pay attention to their newest schedule. These flexible systems sometimes referred to as compressed aim to shorten the workweek and increase the amount of days an employee has off and even during the week. For example an employee might work two eight hour shifts Monday Tuesday and Wednesday and have the rest of the week off. The next weekly template might have them working from Wednesday to Friday or even on the weekends. These weekly schedule templates are much more difficult to create and maintain. However the benefits to both the employees and their employer not to mention the business itself make these template innovations very desirable.
