By this I mean you have a spreadsheet that you use daily weekly or monthly. You may have to modify a few cells but the remainder of the spreadsheet is exactly the way you want it. It may be tedious to modify the cells but it is easier than recreating it from scratch. Guess what you have the basis of a template! If you wanted to make this spreadsheet into template you would need to take two more steps. The first step would involve modifying the spreadsheet to display only the data that remains the same. If you are constantly changing certain cells you would leave these cells formatted but blank. The last step involves saving this spreadsheet as a template. Once this is done you would always have access to a clean spreadsheet that is formatted the way you want and ready for your modifications.

Excel has extensive graphing capabilities. There are several other spreadsheet programs on the market. If all you need is to do some simple formulas you may want to consider Open Office or Quattro Pro by WordPerfect and there are others. Do a Google search for Excel clones. From my experience you will not find a more robust program as excel. If you need Macros or to share data with other database programs you should be looking at Excel Something that makes Excel Powerful is that it includes Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) a programming language based on Visual Basic which adds the ability to automate tasks in Excel.

For example the cells you want people to put data into should not have protection applied and the headlines you need to use to explain where to put the data into should in fact be protected. Further to this in Microsoft Excel 2003 you can set that cells that are protected cannot be selected and I recommend that all headline areas are set in this way.. Issue 2: Lock the Workbook against Structural Changes There are different levels of security in Microsoft Excel such as security at the cell level worksheet level and workbook level.
